Miss Sarah's Yarn

Divine Miss Sarah's Yarn
Divine Miss Sarah (or Sarah for short) came to our farm from a large farm in Oregon. Sarah is a big, strong girl, but she is rather timid. She hates to travel. Once I traveled with Sarah in my van. I glanced in the rear view mirror to see Sarah lying on her side huffing and puffing like she was in labor. I was shocked, since I did not think she was even pregnant. I pulled over and began to watch her. She showed all the signs of labor. My mind raced as I tried to figure out what to do. I had no supplies with me. I decided the best thing to do was to get as home as quickly as possible. As we drove along and time went by, I began to realize that Sarah was not in labor at all - but was simply a nervous traveler. As soon as we arrived at home and I opened the van door, Sarah jumped out and started grazing as though nothing had ever happened.
Sarah has the most awesome crias (babies). She never ceases to amaze us! But, she is a bit of a nervous mother (gee, I can relate to that). Sarah must know where her cria is at all times. If she loses sight of her cria, even for one second, she becomes frantic until she finds her baby. And no other alpaca dare pick on Sarah's babies!!
Sarah's offspring are all big, big boned, dense with great fleece. Her offspring include Kodiak (boy), Vienna (girl) and her most recent girl who we named Lubiana. Lubiana (or LuLu) was born 5 weeks and 4 days late in June 2010, however she was worth the wait. She is going to be awesome.
I must mention a cute story about Sarah (I hope she doesn't mind me telling you - she gets embarassed rather easily). Last year we decided to breed her to Taos for a change in pace. She had two exceptional offspring from Atlantis and we wanted to see what Taos could do. So, we put the two together and Sarah went up to Taos, screamed and spit a big one right in his face. Taos tried again, but got an equally rude response. So, we tried again the next day and the next day, etc. Finally Don told me that he thought Sarah was pregnant. But I couldn't figure out how that could be. I knew there had been no fence accidents - however, she sure acted like she was. Don wanted to have her ultrasounded, but suddenly an idea came to me. I told him to put Taos away and bring out Atlantis (Taos was all too glad to get away from this hateful female!) Don resisted, thinking it would be a waste of time. Finally I convinced him to just give it a try. So, out went Taos and in came Atlantis. Sarah was sweet to Atlantis, nuzzled his face and immediately cushed down for him to be bred. Lubiana was the result, so maybe it is not such a bad thing that she hates Taos' guts!!!
